Palliative Home Care

Palliative care is the care service provided to an individual who is nearing the end of their life – the time frame of which can be difficult to predict accurately. The purpose of Virtus Care’s palliative home care service is to make sure the individual can live as well and comfortable as possible until passing.

The end of life process can be a sensitive and difficult time for everybody involved and there is usually a lot of decisions that are needed to be made for a persons individual care, as well as the post-passing decisions and arrangements.

At Virtus Care we hope to bring emotional and physical support to everybody, including family and the person receiving care to make sure the process can be a little less daunting for you and your loved ones.

With our palliative care service, you or your loved ones can remain in the comfort of your own home, surrounded by your loved ones and memories. But with the peace of mind and support that comes with having a Virtus Care trained carer with you to provide compassionate and dedicated support.

Some of the services we provide as part of palliative care can include:

·       Personal care
·       Bathing, toileting, dressing, and continence care.
·       Clinical care such as stoma and catheter management
·       Medication management and administering.
·       Household tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and pet care.
·       Mobility support – Whether through gentle support or hoisted transfers.
·       Grocery shopping and prescription collection.
·       Assistance with pain management.
·       Companionship - We are here to not only care for you or your loved one, but to also become friends and support your quality of life at home.

who needs palliative care?

With our palliative care service, our sole focus is on quality of living and comfort. Some of the most common conditions that lead people into needing palliative care include cancer, kidney disease,Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis (ALS), Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Dementia, Stroke care, heart failure and many more serious conditions.

When we provide palliative care, the goal is to relieve the individual from any suffering and pain and allow them to live the best quality of life they can, for both the individual and the family. Some of the symptoms palliative care seeks to relieve are:

• Pain
• Depression
• Shortness of breath
• Fatigue
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Confusion
• Loss of appetite
• Difficulty sleeping
• Anxiety

Overall, the care received will improve quality of life, reduce hospital admission, but also potentially relieve patients from much of the pain and suffering that comes with end of life care.

If you are looking for high levels of support and assistance while minimizing hospital attendance and the restrictions of having to move into a care home, we recommend our 24-hour care service, also known as live in care. This is where a chosen carer who is carefully selected and extensively trained, will always be with you, making you, your family, and your home as comfortable and safe as possible.

All of our carers are trained in-house to the highest quality and you will not only be receiving a trained carer to assist you, but also a friend and companion to provide the emotional support these difficult times may bring.

Virtus Care’s care plans are flexible and tailored to your specific needs and requirements. We will adapt to any circumstances to provide you the best palliative care possible for you or your loved ones.

Being a local company driven by our community we can make it clear that there are no set up fees, no agency fees, and no hidden costs. The benefit of Virtus Care operating within the local inner London area is that costs that are often associated with long travel are not as big of a factor, making our care services both affordable and excellent. The prices for all our Care services are very dependent on the care needs for each unique individual, so please get in touch so we can speak and create a tailored price for your individual circumstances.

My Carer with Virtus was a live-in carer, she provided me with everything I needed to be comfortable in my own home, since I am now immobile, the carer helped me with all of my household tasks and even helped me look after my pet. She was always happy and I’m glad to say I see her now as family rather than just a care assistant.
